Our final instalment of the design series is featuring System Six designer Carly. Carly has chosen to feature the Manston Matt Indigo in the kitchen she’d design for her dream home of either a new build, modern extension or a barn conversion. One of the factors influencing Carly’s choice in the Manston is its solid build. The decision to use matt is reflected in Carly’s preference for silky, smooth finishes rather than glossy, reflective surfaces. The handles she would opt for in this kitchen are edge straight handles in brass, to bring out the rich depth of the indigo. As the handleless look is very on trend, Carly chose to use this trim style as it helps to create a similar look while still providing the flexibility to revamp by swapping in new handles. Additionally, the slightness of the handle also adds a flash of colour without overpowering the door.
The fact that this door is Made-to-Measure also factored into Carly’s decision, as she’d like to include a tall bank with full height doors, rather than a door with a split. This is due to the straight edge handles chosen, as they’d look more in place situated in an uninterrupted space.
Carly would choose to use Unistone Statuario Velluto for the worktop, as this white quartz would make the dark doors look sleek and sophisticated. To add to the richness of the overall design, Carly would include an Espresso Oak breakfast bar. The wooden finish works perfectly for a surface used for this purpose as it provides more warmth when sitting around it and resting elbows upon it. The kitchen would also be open plan, as Carly would like to ensure the kitchen is both practical and a place to socialise.
The type of appliances Carly would include in this kitchen are a Siemens Studioline oven, a steam oven, induction hob and Elica extractor. Carly would include a Siemens Studioline oven as this is the oven she currently has and would include it in any of her future kitchens. The aspect that Carly appreciates most about this appliance is it’s vast array of functions which works well with exploratory cooking. To provide an extra feature, Carly would also include the show-stopping extractor, Diva by Elica. This extractor in white would match in with the worktop and provide additional light for cooking under.
