From tactile and textured kitchen cabinets to deep and moody hues, 2025 is packed full of innovative ideas and creative designs that will add the depth and character to your home that you’ve always wanted. Look at some of the big trends that are at the forefront of kitchen design right now and see what takes your fancy…

IT'S ALL ABOUT TEXTURE

In kitchen design, texture is more than an appealing visual detail in the space – it’s a way of making your kitchen a more sensory experience. Texture is “how something feels to the eye” [1], so it is ever important to make sure your kitchen has a balance of the textures you like. Combining different surfaces or feels, such as woodgrain cabinets, quartz worktops or fluted glass, will make your kitchen an enjoyable, interesting and well-rounded space for you and your family to enjoy.

Fluted glass has been one of the most prominent trends of this year at System Six Kitchens, and it shows absolutely no sign of slowing down. Fluted glass is an elegant design option that features vertical ridges that softly refract the light within your cabinet, blurring its contents slightly. Mostly used for coffee and bar units, this distinctive style helps to add uniqueness and modern charm to your kitchen space.

Another way to add a hint of texture to your kitchen is through your choice of handles. At System Six Kitchens, we have a wide variety of different handle styles and textures for you to choose from. Handles can substantially change the look and feel of your kitchen space, so go for what catches your eye.

KEEP IT AU NATURAL

It’s no surprise that natural wood has dominated the world of kitchen design this year and it has shown itself to be a trend that is here to stay. In a sense, wood and woodgrain is a timeless option, as it has always been an attribute of heritage design. Nothing infuses warmth into a kitchen space quite like natural wood. More recently, deeper wooden tones, such as oak or walnut, have been the favourite choices because they add depth and definition to the room as well as warmth.

Natural wood is also a popular choice because of its durable and more sustainable qualities. Due to its structure, the longevity of wood isn’t something that should be overlooked when designing your kitchen space. Show wood off against bright wall colours or painted kitchen cabinets to create an organic feel in your kitchen – one of the best ways to do this is through natural open shelving. Open shelving not only makes your kitchen feel more personal and homely, but it also expands your design possibilities, while being easy to clean and maintain.

ICE AND A SLICE?

The popular phrase ‘start as you mean to go on’ really comes into its own when looking at home bars. Set the scene for 2025 with your very own elegant and bespoke bar cabinet. Whether you want a sophisticated showcase, fit for a soirée, or a fun and social feature in your kitchen, there are endless options and attributes you can include in your home bar.

Make hosting easier than ever with an integrated wine fridge or cooler for maximum practicality. You would never have to worry about running out of drink options for your dinner guests ever again with all the extra room a wine fridge would give you. A wine fridge also allows you to prioritise your main fridge for dinner ingredients or snacks if you’re hosting a much bigger group.

Glass hanging racks are an elegant and hassle-free way to store your wine or champagne glasses in your wine bar. Accidentally nudging a wine glass and then consequently knocking your whole glass display over is everyone’s worst nightmare, but with glass hanging racks, you get the classic and refined aesthetic without the extra risk. Safely tucked and stored in wooden holds above your worktop, your wine bar will be the crown jewel of your kitchen.

SECRET SPACES

Have you ever wanted a space in your home that is just for you? A place to escape the busyness of everyday life? You’re not the only one. Secret home spaces, hidden by disguised pocket doors, have surged in popularity this year. Being both incredibly practical and full of character, hidden utility rooms, pantries and libraries are trends that show no sign of slowing down in 2025. While open-plan kitchen layouts have been popular in the last few years, hidden walk-in larders or laundry rooms help to nicely split up your space and prevent unnecessary clutter. On the design side, hidden rooms add theatre to your home and give your friends and family exciting features to explore in your kitchen.

Pocket doors can be designed in the same style as your kitchen doors, or they can be a completely different style. With a whole host of design possibilities at your fingertips, you can make your home exactly how you’ve always wanted [2].

BUILT-IN BOOTH SEATING

2025 is all about blending practicality and beauty. Nothing does this better than booth seating. Giving any space a Parisian café feel, built-in, cushioned seating can also act as extra storage in your kitchen.

If you have empty corners in your dining room or perhaps a more confined space that you’re struggling to get seats around, integrated seating is a really easy way to make the most of every corner whilst maintaining that luxury feel in your kitchen.

Integrated benches are the ideal option if you are a family with young children, as it provides more space and flexibility at dinnertime. House Beautiful recommend this helpful design tip: “To embrace casual dining, opt for extra comfort with padded back and seat cushions and patterned upholstery to bring character to your dining space.”

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE HUE

For the last few years, modern minimalism has been falling out of fashion. While neutral kitchens are still timeless and popular, a lot of current kitchens are being designed with bolder tones. Both bright and dark shades are growing in popularity as a more expressive approach to interior design is hitting the mainstream.

With the right lighting choices, a darker space can be a sophisticated and elegant haven in your home, perfect for hosting guests (and getting some great compliments too!). The key to a beautiful dark kitchen is to add white or light neutral elements with it to help bounce light around the room so you can capture the mood without sacrificing the natural lightness.

Some colours we expect to be popular this year are deeper tones, like Antique Red, Graphite, Hartforth Blue and Noble Green.
